BlackMINT Mentorship Programs

BlackMINT offers several paths to gain hands on experience within the technology work-field.

The Rising Star Program

Rising Star is a free nine-month mentorship program for Black students in Grade 10 - 11. It provides students with 1:1 mentorship, the opportunity to gain practice tech skills, and to build their network with other students as well as technology professionals within the Rising Star ecosystem. This program was developed by BlackMINT in partnership with Athlete Technology Group, and powered by RBC Future Launch.

As a result of the connections and skills created through the Rising Star experience, students will have stronger post-secondary applications and additional career development opportunities in technology. Throughout the program, students will students will participate monthly in highly engaging workshop, and gain access to the Rising Star platform to further learning with the library of resources.

As the fastest growing industry in the world, technology is creating the most amount of jobs, however, Black professionals only represent 2.6% of the Canada tech workforce. The Rising Star program was developed to change that.

On-Going Mentorship Program

BlackMINT offers on-going mentorship for Black high school students. Students are matched with a mentor who works in technology, and they have monthly connections to cover topics that include: academic success, picking courses, building confidence and dealing with failure. Mentors provide mentees with resources tailored to the interest of the mentees.
